it’s tradition.
it’s family.
hear our story.
Joe D’Amore migrated to Southern CA in the late 1970’s to pursue a career in acting. After a few years of being out in LA and eating around town, he was utterly disappointed every time he wanted to eat his favorite food, Pizza. He had been spoiled by the incredible pizzas my Italian immigrant grandmother used to make him back in our hometown of Boston, MA.
After working in the acting business a few years, he decided it was time to pursue another dream that had since emerged. He was determined to bring my grandmother’s authentic pizza recipe to share with the people on the West Coast.
It wasn’t long after that, he brought Mamanona out on her first plane ride to Los Angeles. After working with her recipe numerous times, she was disappointed in the result. The pizza flopped and wouldn’t fold! This is a felony to us Bostonians! After long discussions, and reviewing all of her same ingredients, she had decided that the only difference was the Water!!
“Bring me a bottle of water from Boston, and I’ll amaka you my pizza!”
I can still hear her now saying it just like that.
You can imagine her delight when her pizza folded and stood straight and had the crisp crunch that she was accustomed to. It was that day that D’Amore’s Pizza was born. In 1987 Joe D’Amore opened his first pie shop in Canoga Park, CA.
His promise was to always keep true to his grandmother’s recipe and to use the most authentic and fresh ingredients available, sparing no cost. His intention was not to make the cheapest, most profitable pizza. It was and remains to be, to make the most delicious, authentic, and traditional east coast pizza he could make. To this day, we still import all of the ingredients to make our dough from Naples, Italy. The flour, the water and the olive oil.
The result? Pure Pizza Magic! Mission Accomplished.
